Powering Southern Africa’s Energy Future
Jindal Energy Botswana is transforming Southern Africa’s energy landscape through the Jindal Mmamabula Energy Project (JMEP), a 700 MW (net) coal-based power plant in Botswana. Developed to meet the nation’s growing electricity demand and export surplus power to neighbouring countries, the project is scheduled for commissioning in December 2026.
As the region’s most advanced Independent Power Producer (IPP) initiative, JMEP supports Botswana’s Vision 2036 and promotes regional energy integration under the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP). With long-term plans to expand capacity to 1200 MW and incorporate solar power, Jindal Energy Botswana aims to enhance energy security and accelerate sustainable economic growth across Southern Africa.
